This project is a living tribute to the women who built the cannabis movement from the ground up — often unseen, often uncredited, but never defeated.
The Cannabis Sisterhood Archive is the first formal preservation of a hidden history:
• Photographs from landmark events like Hempfest, the Cannabis Cup, legalization rallies, and grassroots protests across the U.S. and Europe.
• THC TV and Pot TV Guerrilla Journalism Footage documenting speeches, marches, interviews, and underground activism, featuring figures like Jack Herer, Ralph Nader, Eddie Vedder, Jello Biafra, Kottonmouth Kings, Krist Novoselic, Woody Harrelson, and others.
• Freedom Fighter Journalism: Published articles from High Times, Cannabis Culture, and NORML National chronicling the battle for cannabis reform through a feminist and activist lens.
• Underground Punk and Music Scene Documentation: Rare photos and interviews from the early grunge, punk rock, and hardcore scenes in Berkeley (924 Gilman), Oakland, and Washington State.
• Unpublished Manuscripts and Oral Histories capturing the sisterhood, the struggle, and the spirit of resistance that fueled the movement before legalization was even imaginable.
Sisterhood of Survival
At the heart of the archive is Sisterhood of Survival —
A collective oral history project co-founded with Stephanie Rose, documenting the lives, voices, and sacrifices of women who fought for cannabis freedom while navigating personal battles, marginalization, and activism fatigue.
Stephanie Rose remains a co-founder and guardian of this project’s spirit.
We honor the legacies of women like:
- Ellen Komp (California NORML)
- Debbie Goldsberry (Medical Cannabis Pioneer)
- Kitty Tucker (Families Against Mandatory Minimums, In Memoriam)
- Sandy Burbank (Mamas, Activist and Advocate)
- Valerie Corral (WAMM Collective Founder)
- Michelle Aldrich (Cannabis Policy Advocate)
- Jane Wyrick (Bud Fairy, In Memoriam)
- And countless other women who fought — often anonymously — to bring about change.
Why This Archive Matters
This is not just a preservation project.
This is a reclamation.
A rescue mission for a history that risks being erased, commodified, or forgotten.
As cannabis culture becomes mainstream, it is critical to remember the roots of the movement:
• The underground meetings.
• The marches under threat of arrest.
• The laughter, grief, and courage of women who refused to be erased.
This archive exists to honor them — and to inspire future generations to fight, to dream, and to document.

With Gratitude
This archive would not exist without the foundation laid by giants like Jane Klein, Ed Rosenthal, Ellen Komp, Stephanie Rose, and the entire cannabis sisterhood.
Their courage is the reason we have anything left to preserve.
We stand on their shoulders.
We rise because they rose.
